How To Select A Charter Bus Company

Helpful Tips to Finding the Right Charter Bus Company

Whether it’s a corporate event, a wedding, a trip to the symphony, transporting athletic teams or traveling to another state, it’s important to know how to select a charter bus company. Here are some helpful tips to finding the right charter bus company for your group. Above all, no matter what type of group you have, you want to assure safe, reliable, comfortable transportation at affordable rates. In addition, coach buses are in great demand these days so take special care to plan your trip carefully and look for the best charter bus company to provide this service.

Gather the Details for Your Trip

First, gather information to get an accurate quote such as exact pickup and drop-off details, the day or days of the trip, and the number of people traveling. It’s important to know whether there is space needed for luggage or equipment. If anyone is traveling in your group with a physical disability, make sure the coach bus is wheelchair accessible.

Depending on the size of the coach bus, you can request amenities to keep your group more comfortable. Many of the full-sized charter buses have WiFi, power outlets, DVD players, and an on-board restroom.

In addition, while booking your charter bus trip check out the policies and ask about deposits, refunds and cancellations and any add-on costs.

Use an Established, Reputable Charter Bus Company

When selecting a charter bus company, it’s imperative to find an established, reputable company, like A & A Metro Transportation, to help assure all Department of Transportation (DOT) rules are being followed and has earned the highest rating. For instance, vehicles that transport over 15 passengers are required to have at least $5M in liability coverage.

Above all, drivers need to be experienced and properly licensed with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and certified to transport passengers. This all requires hours of experience driving a coach bus and classroom time. In addition, for safety reasons, drivers cannot operate the coach bus for more than 10 hours a day and may necessitate an additional driver be transported to a location and require additional accommodations.

A reputable charter bus company has a hiring process in place that undergoes pre-employment screening. Background checks are conducted, CORI and SORI reports are run and driving records are checked. A drug and alcohol test is run and once hired, the drivers are added to the random list in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Whether your group is taking a long trip or just transferring from one location to another, make sure your charter bus company is compliant in all these areas.

In conclusion, a reputable coach bus company has a driver training process in place that provides the skills and knowledge needed to always be prepared and provide customers the best, professional experience possible.

More information on FIRST from the team’s website.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, this not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.

The Mission
The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.

What is FRC?

  • FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a unique varsity sport of the mind designed to help high-school-aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the life of engineers and researchers can be.
  • The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in competitions designed by Dean Kamen, Dr. Woodie Flowers, and a committee of engineers and other professionals.
  • FIRST redefines winning for these students because they are rewarded for excellence in design, demonstrated team spirit, gracious professionalism and maturity, and the ability to overcome obstacles. Scoring the most points is a secondary goal. Winning means building partnerships that last.

What is unique about the FRC program?

  • It is a sport where the participants play with the pros and learn from them
  • Designing and building a robot is a fascinating real-world professional experience
  • Competing on stage brings participants as much excitement and adrenaline rush as conventional
    varsity tournaments
  • The game rules are a surprise every year.

A&A Metro Featured In Boston Business Journal

A&A Metro Transportation was profiled in Boston Business Journal and the article is below:

Separating Home And Work A Matter Of Trial And Error

For some family businesses, there’s no distinction between work and home. There may not even be a choice.

Tom Arrighi’s boyhood home in Bridgewater was also the headquarters of Bill’s Taxi Service, founded by his father in 1952.

“We’d be sitting down to eat and a driver would be cashing out,” Arrighi recalled. Sometimes a driver would stay for dinner. All five children ended up as drivers themselves at different times.

Today Bill’s Taxi Service is part of A&A Metro Transportation, with its own offices and garage, and it’s one of the finalists in the midsize category in the Family Business Association Awards for Massachusetts 2010.

Since Arrighi and a brother took over Bill’s Taxi in 1987, he has tried to separate work and home. But he had to learn by trial and error.

On his BlackBerry, he never lists himself as out of the office. On a Sunday after church, he’ll stop by the office “for a minute.”

“It drives my family absolutely nuts,” he said. “ ‘Dad! Please, no! Your two minutes is two hours.’ It’s the nature of the beast sometimes.”

But he’s had some success carving out family time. He coaches kids’ sports teams. He even took the family to Europe — where he used a satellite phone to stay in touch with the office.
